Oats are an ancient grain of the Middle East and Europe area. They come in either steel cut oats or rolled form, depending on whether the whole oat grout is rolled or cut. Steel cut and rolled oats can be used interchangeably in most applications and should have no difference in cooking time or taste, however they will produce a difference in texture of the end product.

How To Cook Oatmeal Porridge

  1. Put 50g porridge oats in a saucepan, pour in 350ml milk or water and sprinkle in a pinch of salt.
  2. Bring to the boil and simmer for 4-5 minutes, stirring from time to time and watching carefully that it doesn’t stick to the bottom of the pan.
  3. Once all the water has absorbed remove from the heat and transfer into a bowl
  4. Add milk and fruit as desired.
