With an array of uses as a lip balm, bum cream, barrier cream or soothing cream for dry skin this multipurpose balm is one of our favourite natural recipes. It is also one of the easiest recipes for personal care products. The importance of natural ingredients within personal care products should not be underestimated. Most lip balms and barrier creams are made from petroleum jelly, which is chemical based. We have all used petroleum jelly. If you are a sportsman or a mom you would have used it extensively in the form of what we commonly know as Vaseline. Our balm recipe contains our all-natural beeswax and local olive oil. Yes, only 2 ingredients – so simple! These ingredients have a host of other benefits too.
Our Natural Recipe For Multipurpose Balm
When it comes to balms and barrier creams everyone has some version in their cupboard. Sportsmen and hikers use it to prevent chafe and blisters. Parents use it to prevent and soothe mild nappy rash. Most of us will know it as the base for lip balm. Lip balms are the easiest way to get those natural luscious looking lips and often work well under lipstick or even on their own.
We have tried many recipes over the years and some get quite complicated. You can find recipes which include shea butter or coconut oil, but in our experience, it isn’t always necessary. It comes down to what you want to use it for and where you will store it. By far the most versatile and in our opinion, the best recipe includes only beeswax and olive oil.
The benefits of beeswax and olive oil for the skin:
Natural beeswax is known to have antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and moisture barrier qualities. It also has a comedogenic rating of 0-2 which means it has a very slim to low likelihood of blocking skin pores. For these reasons, it is a great addition to any skin routine for skin prone to friction, dryness, moisture loss or irritation.
Olive oil has a highly moisturizing quality for skin while maintaining a low risk of clogging pores. Out of all the common oils it is the best for use on skin and has been used in beauty routines for centuries. Make sure you get the extra virgin olive oil to avoid any additives from additional chemical processing.
