Easy Snack Recipe With Widely Available Ingredients
South Africa is known for its big agriculture industry. It is important we pay attention to what we are eating and where our food is coming from. Recently we looked at How Our Diet Is Hurting Our Economy and Why Local Food Is A Healthier Food Choice. As a country we feature within the top producers globally for a number of products. As one of the top producers in the world for both raisins and pears these products are readily and easily available locally. It makes sense that a recipe combining both of these is not only an incredibly delicious combination but also a celebration of our local industry!
Why Organic Raisins?
Does organic really matter when it comes to raisins? YES! Raisins, like most dried fruit, are normally heavily preserved with sulfur dioxide. Sulfur dioxide is an allergen that many people react to and ideally should be avoided where possible. The sulfur dioxide makes the raisins last longer but also makes them dryer and tougher. When you taste the juicy sweetness of extra moist raisins produced with no chemical preservatives you will never go back! There is no better choice for this easy snack recipe than organic raisins.
Certified organic foods that are grown locally are rare. South Africa is one of the largest producers of raisins in the world! Because of the high export volumes of raisins there are a handful of local farmers who produce certified organic raisin for the export market.
