What Makes This Superfood Golden Smoothie Recipe So Amazing?

An interesting mix of ginger, turmeric, maca and pineapple with some protein boosting nuts, all combined in coconut milk. Each one of those ingredients has their own laundry list of benefits! It might sound like an unusual combo but if you are brave enough to try it, you will be well rewarded with a great tasting pick-me-up, immune boosting, anti-inflammatory smoothie!

Why Maca Powder?

The maca plant is sometimes referred to as Peruvian ginseng. Maca is high in vitamin C and a good source of iron. The research on maca is ongoing but its main source of recent fame is the increasing interest in, and use for, its claimed benefits to libido, menopausal symptoms and reproductive function.

In Peru this root vegetable is eaten fresh, prepared similarly to a potato. In other parts of the world maca is commonly found in dried powder form. It has a malt-type taste, likened to unsweetened Horlicks, but still quite unique in its flavour. Its most popular application is a spoonful in smoothies, porridges, lattes or mixed with cocoa powder and sugar within hot milk as a hot beverage.

This is one food we enjoy slipping into our diet.
