It holds together well and tastes delicious done on the braai even though it has no meat or eggs.

How To Make This Vegan Burger Patty Recipe

These burger patties are meet and egg free and do not contain any wheat, but they do contain rolled oats which makes them unsuitable for those looking for a gluten free alternative.




  • 1/2 cup whole-grain teff
  • 1 cup roasted sweet potato cubes
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cup cooked black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 cup finely chopped white onion
  • 1/2 cup chopped spring onion bulbs
  • 1 cup chopped fresh coriander leaves
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • 2 to 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 2 teaspoons raw honey
  • 1/4 teaspoon table salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon seeded, diced jalapeño pepper (optional)
